New Delhi: The northeastern states of Manipur, Shillong and Tripura have organised ‘Run For Unity’ marathons”>marathons to commemorate ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ on the 142nd birth anniversary of India’s first home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
In the marathon held on October 31, people participated with great enthusiasm and took to the streets to spread the message of unity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the marathon to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in New Delhi on October 31.
In Manipur’s capital city Imphal, the marathon was flagged off by state Governor Najma Heptulla from Khuman Lampak main stadium gate and it passed through NH-02, North AOC and New Checkon.
The day was marked with utmost dedication at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, where thousands of youth and officials from armed forces participated in the programme.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who also graced the occasion said, “One thing we should be very clear about is territorial integrity.”
“We all have to be united, which is the principle message that I want to give to the people of the state and the nation,” Singh added.
Similarly, Tripura Governor Tathagatha Roy flagged off the marathon from Vivekananda Stadium in Agartala.
Several top officials of the state, including CS, DGP, DM West Tripura district and other dignitaries also took part in the programme to pay tribute to Sardar Patel.
In Shillong, the marathon started from Fire Brigade (Madan Iewrynghep) where thousands of fitness enthusiasts gathered for participating.(ANI)
