New Delhi, August 20: To ensure better delivery of services to the people, the civic authorities in the city will now use a GIS-enabled land map to gather information on public utilities on the click of a mouse.
The 3-D Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping of areas under the jurisdiction of New Delhi Municipal Council has been completed recently. The 3-D database was developed under Delhi State Spatial Data Infrastructure (DSSDI) project of the Delhi government while the NDMC is focusing on its municipal components.
“We are working on the municipal GIS, dealing with the civic components,” NDMC spokesperson Anand Tiwari said.
Among other things, the GIS land map will help the civic officials get quick information on the status of various public utility services and take remedial measures if there was need for any improvement.
The system will help detect power supply failure in any particular area, status of sanctioning of building plans, condition of roads and unauthorised constructions.
Later, the civic agency may also open the system for public so that complaints registered by the people can be shown on it — with green and red lights being used to denote complaints that have been addressed and those yet to be dealt with, officials said.
