NDMC, EDMC declare holiday on Chhath

New Delhi: North And East Delhi municipal corporations have declared a holiday on November 17, in view of the Chhath puja.

Chhath, a festival dedicated to the sun god is celebrated six days after Diwali, and is marked mainly by people from Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh.

“All offices and institutions run under the NDMC and EDMC would be closed on November 17 for Chhath Puja,” a senior NDMC official said.

He also said that it would be holiday on November 19 after 2 PM to celebrate the ‘Phool Walon ki Sair’ festival.

Banks of Yamuna in east Delhi attracts a large number of devotees on Chhath. Also, many people hailing from Bihar and UP live in both north and east Delhi.
