Guwahati, January 09: The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) today reiterated its demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the 2G Spectrum allocation scam.
”The Congress has been refusing to concede to the demand as they want to kill the 2G scam-news. But the Opposition is committed to keep it alive till justice is done,” Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj (BJP) said here, addressing a massive public rally.
Referring to the criticism of the Opposition for not allowing Parliament to function during the Winter Session on the JPC demand, she said, ”At times, when the Parliament does not function, it yields more results.” She said the Opposition wanted the House to run and had attended two meetings called by Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to end the logjam.
”Our demand was only one – a JPC probe. But the government refused repeatedly,” Swaraj added.
Another NDA leader and Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav too hit out at the government on the JPC issue.
”The majority, including the Congress allies, wanted the JPC probe. Even the DMK, which has its MP A Raja in the eye of the storm on the telecom scam, was in favour of the JPC probe,” Yadav pointed.
”However, the Congress refused to concede and it kept an adamant stand,” he added.
He said the NDA would continue its agitation till the government accepted to order the JPC probe into the 2G scam.
