Hyderabad, February 14: BJP senior leader and Rajya Sabha member M Venkaiah Naidu said on Sunday that the BJP-led NDA is not keen on moving a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The NDA will take a final decision at its parliamentary party meeting scheduled to be held on Feb 22 at Delhi.
“No-confidence motion is a way to expose the misdeeds of the government but this is not the right time. The NDA, however, will adopt different strategies to corner the government in parliament,” the BJP leader said.
Addressing a press conference here, Naidu said that if the government does not appoint a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe the 2G spectrum scam, the NDA will not allow any other business in the House.
He demanded that the government take the initiative to resolve the crisis and make a clear announcement on the constitution of JPC.
Naidu said that the NDA would raise the issues of other scams including the one relating to the S-band spectrum allocation and lesser known ones relating to purchase of aircraft and national highway.
The BJP would also corner the UPA on the Telangana issue. “We want to know how the Congress parliamentarians react to the Telangana issue.”
The BJP leader took strong objection to the External Affairs minister S M Krishna’s gaffe at the United Nations Security Council meeting where he read out the speech of another minister.
He termed it as an example of how the present government functioned and demanded that the Prime Minister gives an explanation to the people. “The Prime Minister has no moral right to continue in office,” he said.
Insisting that the state government had no commitment towards the welfare of the people, Naidu demanded the government to release the white paper on all welfare schemes and development programmes.
Naidu said that the state government was keeping all programmes on hold and was not spending even the money it received from the Centre. He also demanded that the government declare how much budget they had allocated for publicity. “I do not understand why the government is spending huge sums on publicity at a time when there are not enough resources for any government programmes,” he said.
BJP national secretary Dr K Laxman, BJP state president G Kishan Reddy, BJP senior leaders B Dattatreya and N Indrasena Reddy and the official spokesperson NVVS Prabhakar were present at the press conference.
