Mumbai, Aug 8 : National Commission for Women (NCW) today termed the recent incident, where a girl was eve teased on Mumbai local train, as “grievous” as there was no security in the ladies’ compartment after 11 p.m. despite the law.
A member of NCW, Chitra Wagh said: “It is a grievous incident, which happened at around 11:15 p.m. The girl boarded the Churchgate local at Malad station. The incident took place between Grant Road station and Charni Road railway station.”
“There is a rule of deploying a policeman in Women’s coach after 11 p.m, but there was no police at 11:15 p.m. When the girl was in the deserted coach, two men entered and tried to rape her. We have asked the ACP and GRPF that if it is mandatory to deploy either a home guard or a policeman in the women’s coaches after 11 p.m, why wasn’t any officer there on duty? Why didn’t you depute him?” she pointed out.
“There will be an enquiry. That’s why I will meet the GRPF’s Commissioner tomorrow. We will investigate this matter. Right now, they don’t have any answer,” she added.
Wagh noted that if incident like this is still taking place in today’s date, then “women are not safe in Mumbai and Maharashtra.”
In yet another case of crime against women, a 22-year-old girl was eve-teased on a Mumbai local train last night.
As per the reports, the assailant managed to jump off the train before he could be caught. However, the suspect has been caught on a CCTV camera. (ANI)
