NCP wants coordination panel meet

Mumbai, April 26: Seeking to iron out differences between the ruling alliance partners in the Democratic Front government of Maharashtra, NCP has asked for a meeting of the Congress-NCP coordination committee soon.

“The meeting of the panel should be convened to discuss various issues, including those raised in the recent budget session of state legislature,” NCP state unit president Madhukar Pichad said, in a letter to chief minister Prithviraj Chavan.

“In this connection, there is a need for proper coordination between the ruling Front constituents,” Pichad said.

Various other important issues could also be discussed in the panel meeting, he said.

The Water Bill, seeking diversion of water from state irrigation projects to the industrial sector, had become the latest flash point between the alliance partners.

The water distribution priority was later reworked following widespread opposition to the Bill.

Congress legislators, specially those from Vidarbha region, targeted deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar over the controversial Bill.

MPCC president Manikrao Thakre even led a delegation of Congress MLAs and ministers from Vidarbha to the chief minister over the issue.
