New Delhi, March 16: NCP MP Sameer Bhujbal has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asking him to consider quota within quota for OBC women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies and suggested that caste-based census should be held to ascertain figures of backward classes.
“The argument that no reservation can be given to the OBCs because there is no census on their population is a far fetched one. Not having a separate census for OBCs is not a fault of the class,” Bhujbal stated in his letter.
He has asserted that Commissions like Kalelkar and Mandal have strongly recommended the need for a separate census of the OBCs like it is done for SC and ST and alleged that governments never accepted these recommendations.
