NCP to go it alone in Gujarat local body polls

Dholka (Gujarat), Jun 10: The NCP, a key ally of the Congress-led coalition at the Centre, has decided to go it alone in the upcoming local body elections in Gujarat, state party president Jayant Patel said today.

“In the forthcoming municipal elections in Ahmedabad and other local bodies, we are not going to have an alliance with Congress,” Patel told reporters on the sideline of NCP’s 12th Foundation Day function held here.

Recently in Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai municipal polls, NCP fought on its own despite being a coalition partner in Maharashtra and still won, he said, adding “in the same fashion we would do it in Gujarat.”

“We are targeting more seats in Gujarat. We would be contesting all the elections at local level on our own without any support from other parties,” Patel added.
