NCP Ajit Pawar to be Maha Deputy CM

Mumbai: Nationalist Congress party leader who was recently in the news after CBI cleared him of charges in multicrore irrigation scam, is all set to return to politics as Deputy CM of Maharashtra after his dramatic betrayal before MVA alliance.

Nephew of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Ajit is likely to take oath on December 30, NDTV reports.

Last month, he attended the Uddhav Thackeray’s oath but was not sworn in, his uncle called it a “conscious decision”.

Ajit Pawar’s betrayal to NCP party was shocking as he went ahead to sworn in along with BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis.

But that coalition lasted only for 80 hours since Ajit failed to bring in more NCP MLAs to sustain the coup.

Ajit Pawar, aka “Ajit Dada”, had in the past served as deputy chief minister for two short-lived terms when the Congress-NCP was in power before 2014.
NCP Chief Sharad Pawar had earlier indicated that it was Congress that has derived him into the arms of the BJP with its demands during alliance talks.

“It has to be discussed with colleagues. But sizeable members of the party have full respect for him, even if they are unhappy about him going to the BJP” Pawar senior had told.
