NCERT recommends opening of schools in minority areas

New Delhi: The National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) suggested that schools are opened in minority populated areas. It also suggested that their culture is given due representation in the curriculum to address various problems like discrimination and harassment of minority community children.

The NCERT also recommended celebrating festivals related to religious minorities in schools. A manual has been drafted by the NCERT which states “general issues of discrimination and harassment faced by children of minorities, minority children go through some other modes of discrimination like a different school and classroom environment, cultural and religious domination.”

Sensitisation of all teachers to issues of cultural and religious diversity, especially in relation to religious minorities are also recommended.
