NC backs Chidambaram’s remark on Kashmir

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): The National Conference on Sunday backed former Home Minister P. Chidambaram for his remarks on Kashmir.

“Chidambaram said that according to his experience and his interactions in Jammu and Kashmir led him to the conclusion that when Kashmiris ask for independence, most of them are talking about autonomy. Then people started blasting him for his statements and said they can’t expect anything else from Congress,” Former NC president Omar Abdullah said.

Chidambaram has drawn flak from the BJP for his statement that people in Kashmir who demand ‘azaadi’ actually seek autonomy for the state.

“My interactions in Jammu and Kashmir led me to the conclusion that when they ask for ‘azaadi’, most people want autonomy,” Chidambaram had said.

Abdullah further said Prime Minister Modi brought a perfect solution for Kashmir issue, but his team didn’t implement it.

“After a long wait, we heard the Prime Minister saying that Kashmir issue cannot be resolved by either bullet or by abuses. It can be resolved by embracing Kashmiris. We wish his accomplished team would have listened to his words,” he said.

Abdullah also trained guns at Chief Minister Mehbooba Muft and said, “They said we made one militant Burhan Wani. We own responsibility for that but what about her who made uncountable Burhan Wani and Zakir Musa.”

“The condition in which we provided Kashmir to Mehbooba Mufti is totally different today. It is completely destroyed. We will have to spend years to improve this situation. The soldier we train as a policeman wants to be a militant more,” he added. (ANI)
