NBK’s cancer hospital sacks five staffers

Hyderabad, January 22: Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (BIACH&RI) is back in news, again for wrong reasons. Five employees, who have been terminated from service by the management, were seen locked in heated arguments with the management.

The reason for their sacking: They mobilised other staff members and staged a dharna in front of the chief executive officer’s demanding hike in increments last year.

Actor and chairman of the hospital Nandamuri Balakrishna came to the hospital premises around 11 am and informed the five employees that their services have been terminated. The sacked employees are: N Hari Hara Varma, manager, front office, Prasad, civil engineer, Swaroopa Rani, front office and nursing staff Aruna and Padma. They have been asked to vacate their ‘Atidhi’ quarters immediately.

Mild tension prevailed on the hospital premises with the terminated employees picking up arguments with the management protesting against the sudden termination of employees.

A section of the employees last year boycotted duties and staged a protest on the hospital premises demanding increments and other allowances. They alleged that the hospital CEO Satyanarayana and administrator Niraja have shown bias in giving increments to them.

The victims alleged that the management terminated them based on a video footage, which was shot during the protest. “I joined the hospital in 2008. As a front office manager, I have done my duties sincerely and efficiently without any complaint till date. Niraja, who joined recently as an administrator in the hospital, is interfering in my work. She humiliates co-workers using filthy language,” Hari Hara Varma, one of the victim told Express.

Varma said the hospital management deliberately terminated only five of them, though hundreds of employees took part in the dharna, without giving any prior notice.
