Washington: The US channel NBC broadcast reruns of the early morning talk show ‘Megyn Kelly Show’ amid the rumours of anchor Megyn Kelly’s possible exit from the show and the network.
Kelly did not host her show on Thursday morning and a pre-taped episode was aired in place of her live telecast. “Given the circumstances, Megyn Kelly Today will be on tape the rest of the week,” NBC spokeswoman said.
Several media outlets speculated that she will not be a part of NBC anymore. However, CNN quoted Kelly spokesman Davidson Goldin as saying that NBC is yet to contact the host of the show or her representatives.
The rumours of Kelly’s exit sparked following a racist comment she made on the talk show on Tuesday. “You do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. Back when I was a kid, that was O.K., as long as you were dressing up as a character,” Kelly had said on her Tuesday show during a roundtable discussion.
Kelly, however, apologised for her remarks saying, “I realise now that such behavior is indeed wrong, and I am sorry. The history of blackface in our culture is abhorrent; the wounds too deep. I’ve never been a (politically correct) kind of person – but I understand that we do need to be more sensitive in this day and age. Particularly on race and ethnicity issues which, far from being healed, have been exacerbated in our politics over the past year.”
The remark drew flak from NBC News chairman Andy Lack, who was quoted as saying by The New York Times, “There is no other way to put this, but I condemn those remarks. There is no place on our air or in this workplace for them.”
Kelly, who worked for Fox News joined NBC days before US President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
She is known to have taken a stand for herself after the US President aimed sexist comments at her.
