Chennai, May 27: National Biodiversity Authority is preparing guidelines for its state-level boards for declaring as heritage sites those rich in biodiversity.
“The guidelines for State Biodiversity Boards are under preparation… these are mainly to declare heritage sites which are rich in biodiveristy,” NBA Chairman P L Gautam told reporters here.
The guidelines would be prescribed as ‘People Biodiversity Registry’ and ‘Biodiversity Heritage Sites’, which would help state boards to discuss matters relating to conservation of biological diversity, sustainable use of biological resources and equitable sharing of benefits arising out of the use of biological resources, he said.
“Presently, these guidelines are followed in eight states like Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Orissa and some endangered species were identified to preserve,” he said.
Gautam said setting up of state board in each state was well in place and currently about 24 states have established the Boards.
