New Delhi, May 16: The Narmada Bachao Andolan has asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh not to review suspension of the Maheshwar dam construction till rehabilitation of affected people despite a request from the Madhya Pradesh government.
“Instead of taking any steps about rehabilitation, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh has asked the Prime Minister to cancel the Ministry of Environment and Forest’s(MOEF) order on false and baseless grounds,” the NGO said in a statement.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, the NGO appealed to him not to “let the private project promoters trample on fundamental and statutory rights of the oustees”.
