Nawaz vows to counter any move against democracy

Hyderabad, December 10: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif vowed to struggle against any move made to destabilise the democratic set up of the country.

He was talking to reporters after condoling with former Sindh minister Dr Irfan Gul Magsi and Tando Allahyar District Nazim Rahila Gul Magsi on the demise of their father and veteran politician, Raees Allah Bux Magsi.

Agreement: Nawaz said the PML-N and the Pakistan People’s Party were bound to respect each other’s mandate under the Charter of Democracy (COD). He said the PML-N wanted the implementation of the CoD to end political crisis and put the country on the path of prosperity. He said Pakistan was passing through a crucial stage, adding that the parliament needed to be made more effective.

The parliament should be sovereign in order to make the country strong, he said. Nawaz stressed the need for tackling national issues instead of levelling allegations against each other.

Concerning his talks with President Asif Ali Zardari over the phone, he said he had suggested forming a six-member committee – three from each political party – to decide the agenda of the meeting between PML-N and PPP so that it could be held with full understanding.

To a question, he said a decision on the National Finance Commission Award would be made with the consensus of all four provinces.
