Lahore: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has written a letter to Separatist leader Asiya Andrabi appreciating her struggle in raising the Kashmir issue and said that Pakistan will continue raising this issue on all ‘international’ levels.
According to Daily Pakistan, Sharif said this while responding to a letter by Andrabi and asserted that Pakistan will continue its moral and political support to the people of Kashmir in their struggle for right to self-determination that has been acknowledged by the United Nations.
“Received your letter and I respect your feeling and appreciate you being a well wisher for the people of Pakistan. The issue of Kashmir is an international one and has been pending since 1947. Pakistan knows its responsibility about Kashmir issue and will continue to raise this issue on all international levels,” Sharif said in his letter addressed to the Separatist leader.
He also accused India of going back on its promise to the international community that Kashmir would be given the right to choose its political future through the exercise of self determination and that this was a betrayal, the daily reports.
Sharif appreciated the ‘sacrifices’ made by Andrabi saying that the people of Kashmir were carrying out an ‘exemplary’ struggle under her leadership.
“No matter what India says, the resolution of Kashmir can be only achieved through a free and fair right to self determination,” Sharif wrote.
The Prime Minister had earlier called for a third party intervention into the Kashmir issue since Pakistan had not received adequate response from India.
India, however, has rejected any third party intervention to the Kashmir issue and has maintained that all outstanding matters in the Indo-Pak ties should be resolved bilaterally. (ANI)
