Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan a cherished ruler

127th birth anniversary of Asif Jah VII Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan Bahadur falls on April 5. Although the communal elements existing in government, public departments, and non government organizations and political parties spread baseless propaganda against him and the prejudiced campaign is continued till date but the services rendered by this great ruler in providing basic facilities to Hyderabad Deccan and for the prosperity of its citizens are unforgettable.

Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan Bahadur Fateh Jang Nizamud Daula Nizamul Mulk was born on Tuesday, April 5, 1886 in Haveli Qadeem. He was appointed the ruler of Hyderabad Deccan on September 18, 1911 on the sad demise of Nawab Mir Mahboob Ali Khan Bahadur. During his days as Nizam, he was reputed to be the richest man in the world, having a fortune estimated at US$2 billion in the early 1940s ($32.8 billion in today dollars) or 2 per cent of the US economy then. Inspite of his richness he was a simple person he always preferred simple living. He looked upon Hindus and Muslims as the two eyes of his kingdom. He ruled for 37 years. He died on February 24, 1967 at the age of 81,

Nearly all the major public buildings in Hyderabad city are built during his reign, and most of the developmental projects were under taken by him. Osmania University, Osmania medical college, most of the irrigation projects, finance department, electricity department, power plants, railways, court, commissionerate, jails, police, animal husbandry, veterinary hospitals, printing press, revenue department, forests, customs, reservoirs, municipal corporation, radio station, planetarium, Osman Sagar, Himayat Sagar, Asifia library, public garden, Assembly, secretariat, Nampally sarae, are all the major contributions of Nawab Mir Osman Ali Pasha.
