Naval helicopter makes emergency landing

Ramanathapuram, April 20: An Indian Naval helicopter had to make an emergency landing on the busy East Coast Road, after the crew detected oil leakage in the fuel tank at Uppoor near Tiruvadanai, here today.

Official sources said the Chetak helicopter that took off from the Naval Air Station INS Parundu at Uchapuli airbase for a routine surveillance along the South-Eastern Coast, developed a technical snag, following the oil leakage. It was timely detected by the crew. The pilot had made an emergency landing on the East Coast Road, otherwise the chopper would have crashed on the ground. The helicopter landed safely and three people on board- pilot and two co-pilots- were safe, the sources added. On information, a technical team from INS Parundu rushed to the site to take up the repair works. The Navy had begun an investigation into the incident.
