Natural gas pivotal in fertilizers production: Expert

Mr Rajagopalan Raghavan, Vice-President (operation and production) Nagarjuna Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (NFCL) today said that Natural gas plays a pivotal role in fertilizers production. Delivering the key note address at the workshop on oil and gas downstream processing at the JNTUK auditorium here, he explained the importance and application of fertilizers and how carbon, nitrogen and oxygen would be responsible for the manufacture of various fertilizers. He elaborated the parameters and process variables that influence the production of hydrogen in the stream of natural gas. Mr Raghavan also distinguished various feed stocks for the production of hydrogen which was the raw material for the synthesis of ammonium.

Another guest of honour Varun Sharma, Group General Manager, Oil India Limited, said with the lot of utilization of crude oil and natural gas, the petrochemical engineers can make wonders. “Economy of any Nation depends upon petroleum resources. Currently India is importing 73 per cent of crude oil and by 2025 end, it is likely to go up to 93 per cent,” he said and asked the students to be innovative in solving the entire environmental problems and contribute a lot in generation of solar energy and wind energy.
