Kabul, April 05: A soldier with NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was killed Sunday by an improvised bomb in troubled southern Afghanistan, the alliance said.
“An ISAF service member died as a result of an IED strike in southern Afghanistan today,” the force said in a statement, without specifying the victim’s nationality or any other details.
The latest casualty brings the number of foreign soldiers killed to 145 so far this year, according to a NEWS AGENCY.
Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have become the weapons of choice for the Taliban insurgents who were ousted from power in late 2001 by a US-led invasion of Afghanistan.
Most of the casualties to Afghan and international troops are caused by IED strikes.
Meanwhile, the interior ministry said four people — one man and three women — were killed today evening when their car hit a mine in Ghazni city, also in southern Afghanistan.
Four children were also wounded, with one of them in a critical condition, the department said in a statement.
