NATO chopper crashes in Afghanistan

Kabul, July 07: A helicopter from the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has crashed in eastern Afghanistan one day after an ISAF cargo plane crashed in the same area of the war-ravaged country.

The ISAF Joint Command said the helicopter went down Thursday morning in Parwan Province, Xinhua reported.

“There were no injuries and the crew has been recovered,” ISAF announced.

“What caused the aircraft to crash is under investigation; however, initial reporting indicates there was no enemy activity in the area at the time of the incident,” it added.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.

An Azerbaijani cargo plane, charted by NATO’s ISAF, crashed in Parwan Province late Tuesday, killing all its nine crew members and causing a major fire on a mountain top.

The aircraft hit a mountain peak some 50 km north of the Afghan capital of Kabul.

Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for the crash without elaborating on how the plane was brought down.
