Tripoli, June 05: Tripoli and Tajura, a suburb east of the Libyan capital, saw six powerful explosions on Saturday afternoon and early Sunday as NATO warplanes have been heard flying over the area at the time of the blasts, Reuters reported.
NATO aircraft have been striking government targets since March 2011 as part of the UN Security Council Resolution 1973, which imposes a no-fly zone over Libya.
The Libyan ruler has launched a military crackdown on the opposition forces since a popular uprising broke out in mid-February.
“The city of Tripoli is undergoing attack now by the colonialist crusader aggressors,” Libyan state television said.
The Western military alliance has insisted that it will continue bombing Gaddafi forces until he leaves power. Britain and France have recently deployed attack helicopters in Libya in an unprecedented move to step up pressure on the Libyan government.
