National security, education scenario discussed at BJP-RSS meet

India’s national security and education scenario figured prominently on the second day of the meeting between leaders of the BJP and the RSS here.

“RSS samanvay Biathak today discussed scenario of national security (internal and external) besides national education scenario,” RSS prachar pramukh Manmohan Vaidya posted on the official RSS Twitter handle, summing up the day’s deliberations.

According to sources, Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani made a presentation on the education scenario in the country.

The sources said RSS-affiliated group Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal was of the view that six percent of the country’s GDP should be focused on education.

It also backed a panel for education to be set up on the lines of the Election Commission, RSS sources said.

According to the sources, some other suggestions which came from RSS bodies were inclusion of local languages in the country’s primary education system and promoting other Indian languages.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh made a presentation on national security.

Sources said article 370, the Naga peace accord, border related issues and the recent terrorist attacks figured in the deliberations.

The sources said Gujarat’s Patel reservation issue also figured in the meet.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot spoke on religion-based census and the Patel reservation issue.

Economic issues were discussed on the first day of the meet on Wednesday.

“Economic scenario of Bharat & measures to improve growth and development were discussed. Many constructive suggestions came up,” Vaidya tweeted.

BJP president Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Ananth Kumar and Health Minister J.P. Nadda attended the meeting.

Ram Madhav, a Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary who was formerly with the RSS, and BJP general Secretary (organisation) Ram Lal were also present.

All organisations affiliated to the RSS gave their feedback on major initiatives of various ministries.

Sources said the feedback would be provided to Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he attends the BJP-RSS meet being held at a Madhya Pradesh government guest house in Vasant Kunj here.

Modi is likely to attend the meeting on September 4.
