Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said despite the Narendra Modi Government’s “attempts to erase the memory” of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, a grateful nation and its people will remember her for her invaluable contribution to nation building.
In a statement here today on the occasion of Indira Gandhi’s 98th birth anniversary, Gogoi said during the tenure of Indira Gandhi, the country not only attained self sufficiency in food but also made remarkable progress in industry, education, science and technology, art and culture and sports.
Her wisdom and statesmanship helped India earn recognition in the international community, he said.
Gogoi also said she always stood like a rock for strengthening the edifice of unity and integrity of the country and she sacrificed her life for it.
“Indiraji’s ideals have become more relevant in the backdrop of growing intolerance in the country when divisive forces are at work to tear asunder the social fabric,” he said.
Assam has been marching triumphantly on the path of progress and development as the state government did not let the divisive forces to emerge, Gogoi said.
