New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the three service chiefs led the nation in paying floral tributes and homage to Mahatma Gandhi, Father Of The Nation, on his 68th death anniversary on Saturday.
Tributes were paid at the memorial at the Rajghat on the outskirts of the national capital.
“Remembering the valour of all martyrs who gave their lives for the Nation. Their sacrifices remain etched in our memory.”, Prime Minister Modi tweeted on Saturday.
“Let us as a nation stand together in silence for 2 minutes at 11 a.m. today as a mark of respect towards our brave martyrs,” he further said calling for a nationwide observance of silence in honor of the brave martyrs.
It was on this day in 1948, that Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated, when he was on his way to attend his evening prayers. (ANI)
