NASSCOM knowledge centre at Don Bosco

Hyderabad, November 05: GE Volunteers have helped set up a NASSCOM Knowledge Network (NKN) centre at Don Bosco School in Hyderabad. Over 260 centre strong, NKN Initiatives is run by NASSCOM Foundation to propagate information and communication technology (ICT) exposure and training among financially challenged communities and as a result help enhance their livelihoods. The Don Bosco centre, apart from providing exposure to IT training, will also help provide other services relating to education, healthcare and other livelihood programs to the students.

“The NKN at Don Bosco is expected to help over 30 students per batch of 3months to learn the basics of computer hardware and software, Internet and also some highend professional software. The training is expected to improve their employability in a big way,” said Father Bala Showry, Don Bosco School.

“GE Volunteers have been involved with our school and helping our students in many different ways since 2005. This centre is a result of many hours of hard work put in by the GE Volunteers.” “GE Volunteers in Hyderabad and in fact across India have been associated with several not-for-profit projects in the area of enhancing education and life skills among young people. I am delighted by the launch of the NKN centre at Don Bosco. It is a small step, but I am sure it will give immense positive exposure to the students,” said Sanjeev Jain, GE Volunteer Leader in India.

“We are very excited about our partnership with GE Volunteers and are sure that we will be able to cater to communities further.

Our association with GE has boosted our NKN endeavour, and acts as an example for many more corporates to join the movement”, says Rufina Fernandes CEO, NASSCOM Foundation.

The NKN centre at Don Bosco school will have 10 computer terminals which have been donated by the NASSCOM Foundation.
NASSCOM Foundation and GE Volunteers have helped train-the-trainers who in turn will run the centre.
