Nellore, September 24: Narthana, who had suffered at the hands of her mother and mother’s lover, and was admitted to the Kanchi Kamakoti Trust Hospital in Chennai for treatment, returned here this evening.
The girl was discharged from the hospital in Chennai at 9:30 am and was brought to Nellore at around 3 pm.
Vasanthalakshmi Charitable Trust, which has taken care of her till now, handed over her to ICDS project director Sharada Devi.
Though the girl has recovered from some of the physical injuries, she still needs treatment and bed rest for another 15 to 20 days. She will be treated at Ravi Children’s Hospital, which is run by Vasanthalakshmi Charitable Trust.
The trust handed over the donations that were received from people and deposited the money in the account of Narthana it opened with Punjab National Bank and handed over the same to ICDS project director.
The donations amounted to Rs 50,000. The ICDS project director said that here onwards any donations would be kept in a separate account opened in the name of the girl with SBI. She ruled out any possibility of giving Narthana for adoption in immediate future as the adoption process is lengthy and stringent. As on date, apart from Vatsalya Ashram and NTR Trust, two more NGOs have come forward to adopt the girl.
For now Narthana will be in care of ICDS and will be treated at Ravi Children’s Hospital for the next two to three weeks. E Jayaraj, convener of Nellore District Forum for Children’s Rights, a district-based NGO, accused Vasanthalakshmi Charitable Trust of gobbling up the donations received for Narthana. He alleged that the bank account was not in the name of the girl.
He also accused the police department of plotting to protect the main accused, Nagesh, by keeping the focus on Narthana’s mother Nagachaitanya and trying to project her as mentally unstable and even bring out a story on her mother’s alleged affair and reported mental problem.
