Narendra Modi warns of stern action against culprits

Ahmedabad, July 10: Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi said the state government had taken a serious view of the unfortunate hooch tragedy and warned that stern action would be taken against the culprits.

In a statement released tonight, Modi sympathised with the relatives and family members of those who died in the tragedy and appealed to the people to maintain peace in the city.

He said the state government is fully determined to get to the root cause of this tragedy and stern action would be taken against the culprits.

Modi also said that he does not want to politicise the issue by saying what had happened during Opposition’s rule.

“The government has already appointed a judicial commission to inquire into the incident. The commission has also been ask to recommend measures to get rid of liquor addiction in the state,” he said.

He said that people concerned should make their suggestions before the inquiry commission.

Modi held a high level meeting with the ministers, bureaucrats and police officials concerned and asked them to maintain law and order in the state.

Without naming the opposition, CM said “some elements are out to politicise the issue and want to create social tensions in the city.”

“I appeal to the citizens of Ahmedabad not to allow such elements to create tension at this hour of crisis,” he said.

The CM has also said the health department officials are working round-the-clock to provide treatment to those who are hospitalised.
