Narendra Modi files nomination for Gujarat polls

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Friday filed his nomination papers from the Maninagar constituency for the state assembly elections on Dec 17.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also launched a new campaign slogan “Vikas, Vishwaas, and Vijay (development, trust, and victory)” for the state polls.

The two-phased Gujarat polls are being held Dec 13 and 17. The votes will be counted on Dec 20.

“We will fight the elections on the basis of development and not on the basis of vote bank politics,” Modi told his supporters. He challenged the Congress to show what work they have done for Gujarat and charged the opposition party with trying to sabotage the developmental projects.

“No amount of money can take BJP out of power in Gujarat,” he asserted.

Shweta Bhatt, wife of suspended Gujarat police officer Sanjiv Bhatt, also filed her nomination Friday from Maninagar on a Congress ticket.

“Everything has been subverted in Gujarat, including democratic institutions. Law and order too is being subverted. I plan to go to the electorate to the ‘aam aadmi’ and raise all these issues among them,” Shweta told IANS.
