Mumbai: Former Pakistan President and head of its Army General Pervez Musharraf has been critical of that country’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, saying that his role in the Panama Leaks has put Pakistan on the backfoot when it comes to international diplomacy.
In an exclusive interview with WION, General Musharraf added that India Prime Minister Narendra Modi was best placed to solve the Jammu & Kashmir issue, given his international standing and domestic mandate.
On a self-imposed exile, Musharraf, who currently lives in Dubai, said that he hopes to start a third political force in Pakistan, as it is the need of the hour.
He said that while he has no aspirations to be prime minister, he would offer his advice to the government. He also believed that the Army would support him.
In the interview, which will be aired on Saturday, the former Pakistan president criticised the Donald Trump-led US administration of linking terrorism with Islam. “That is big folly.
Terrorism has no religion. Islamophobia… if its Muslim. It’s Islamic… but if its Christian it’s not Christian.”
Musharraf also dismissed accusations of human rights violations in Balochistan, saying these were concocted by India and accused Delhi of meddling in Pakistan’s internal affairs.
He said, “You are assisting separatists who are in the minority. You are helping them internationally to project this.”
