Narayana urges Guv to pay relief to farmers

State CPI secretaru Dr K. Narayana on Wednesday wrote to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan seeking adequate compensation and insurance benefits to the farmers who were affected by unseasonal and untimely heavy rains resulting huge loss to crops like mangoes, Maize, chilli.
In his letter, the CPI leader has stated that recently period unseasonal rains lashed Telangana region i.e. Khammam, Warangal, Nalgonda, part of Medak district and Nizamabad. Due to the untimely rains, paddy crops, Mango orchards, chilli, Maize farmers suffered heavy loss. Due to elections, the farmers could not hire agricultural labourers for cutting the ripe crop. So the sudden untimely rains have destroyed paddy and other crops. Chilli crop was soaked in rain water. Unripe mangoes have fallen on the ground, he added.
The CPI leader urged the Governor to direct the authorities concerned to purchase soaked food grains, chilli, maize and mangoes through marketing federation. He also urged the Governor to ensure crop insurance benefit to the farmers and tenant farmers. He also sought additional compensation for the farmers. (NSS)
