Narasimhan, Kiran greet people

Hyderabad, April 04: Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy at the high tea hosted by the former at Raj Bhavan on Sunday.

HYDERABAD: Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu, and other leaders greeted people of the State on the occasion of ‘Khara Ugadi’ being celebrated on Monday.

In his message on Sunday, the Chief Minister wished the people all happiness and prosperity.

He expressed hope that the New Year would bring in copious rainfall to help the farmers.

Ordinance

A new Ordinance to be promulgated by the government for protection of lease-farmers would provide 22-lakh of them bank loans and other benefits, he said.

Wishing the Telugu people across the world a peaceful and prosperous Ugadi, Mr. Naidu called for rededication to fight poverty and equality in the society. APCC president D. Srinivas, Praja Rajyam chief K. Chiranjeevi, and Lok Satta president Jayaprakash Narayan also greeted people on the occasion.

High tea

Earlier, Mr. Narasimhan hosted high tea at Raj Bhavan on the eve of Ugadi. A violin concert by Kalamamini Kanya Kumari marked the occasion. Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Deputy Speaker N. Manohar, former A.P. Legislative Council Chairman A. Chakrapani, PCC president D. Srinivas, CPI leader K. Narayana, BJP Leader Bandaru Dattatreya, Ministers — Vatti Vasanth Kumar, V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy, and D. Sridhar Babu — former Governor P.S. Rama Mohan Rao, Chief Secretary S.V. Prasad and a number of prominent citizens of the city attended.

Earlier, Mr. Narasimhan and his wife Vimala received the guests.

The Governor felicitated the artistes with mementoes and shawls.
