New Delhi,May: The Bollywood actor and director Nandita Das filed for a divorce from her second husband Saumya Sen in the Patiala House Court on
Saturday. The two were married in Delhi on December 22, 2002.
Das, known for her offbeat roles in award winning movies, approached the court seeking divorce from her second husband Sen, a Kolkata based advertisement professional.
Moving a divorce petition under section 13(b) before the court of additional district judge (ADJ) Rajrani Mittra, Das, who personally appeared before the court, sought a divorce on the basis of mutual consent of the couple.
After admitting their petition, ADJ Mittra recorded the statement of the two. In their statements, the couple contended that they separated a while ago and wanted a divorce under Section 13B (divorce by mutual consent) under the Hindu Marriage Act. Their petition cited irreconcilable differences between the two.
The court then asked the couple to reappear with “The Second Motion Petition for Mutual Consent Divorce” after six months, giving them time to rethink their decision as provided under the Hindu Marriage Act that provides a chance to the couple to withdraw his/her petition within the six month term.
Meanwhile, Dass counsel Tridip Das confirmed that a divorce petition has been filed in the court. He, however, refused to comment on the matter.
Saumya was earlier working with advertisement agency Ogilvy & Mather but later resigned from his job as creative director to do meaningful work on social communication. He later opened Leapfrog, an ad agency, and produced a number of ad films.
