Najeeb Jung says yes to ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’

New Delhi: Delhi lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has no problem in chanting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ saying that there is a distinction between worshipping Allah and one’s country.

“As an Indian who owes everything to this country, I would say with pride Bharat Mata ki jai, (but) you can’t force just anyone to say anything… The right to refuse (to chant it) does not mean that you are anti-India.”

The former Vice Chancellor of Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia in an exclusive interview with India Today termed the ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ controversy a “manufactured debate.”

“My mother is 95 years old. Every morning, I bow to touch her feet. Am I worshipping her? Mr. Jung said.

L-G also said the AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi was wrong to make Bharat Mata Ki Jai controversy, an issue of priority and importance.

“Owaisi is a senior politician…I have lots of respect for him. He has lot of following in his community… there are many more issues confronting the Muslim community like health and education that deserve attention,” Jung said.
