Naidu warns Govt against stopping anti-corruption protests

Hyderabad, August 17: Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday warned the government of serious consequences if it takes action against those expressing solidarity with civil activist Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement.

Addressing a gathering in front of Ambedkar statue on Tankbund, Naidu condemned the arrest of Anna Hazare and described his arrest as illegal, undemocratic and unconstitutional. Demanding immediate release of Anna Hazare, Naidu stated that the Centre has not yet taken the corruption issue seriously. He said the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has been surrendered to corruption.

Criticizing the Prime Minister for being a mute spectator despite lodging complaint against the state government’s involvement in corruption allegations, Naidu said that people were losing faith over the UPA governments and Congress party, in particular, due to their leaders’ involvement in rampant corruption.

Naidu also appealed to Centre to include the Chief Minister’s office in the purview of Lokayukta and Prime Minister’s office under Lokpal. He suggested that the Election Commission disqualify candidates who were found guilty of corrupt practices.

Earlier, Naidu took out Pada yatra from NTR Trust Bhavan to Ambedkar Statue on Tankbund protesting against the arrest of Anna Hazare in New Delhi.
