AP Chief Minister N Chandrbabu Naidu on Saturday visited the rain-affected areas in Nellore district to have first hand information about the loss of life and property. He also reviewed the situation in the flood affected areas with the district officials.
Speaking to the media later, the Chief Minister said there was a heavy loss due to low pressure and it might take another two days to assess the damage caused by the rain fury. Naidu said the State government has sent an s.o.s. to the Centre seeking immediate financial assistance of Rs 3,000 crore to provide rehabilitation and relief to the affected population. Naidu said there was huge loss to the farmers in Nellore, Kadapa, Anantapur, East and West Godavari districts. Aqua farmers in Nellore district alone suffered a loss of Rs 1,000 crore and groundnut crop was damaged in Anantapur district, he said. Crops in several lakhs of acres in East and West Godavari districts were badly damaged, he added. .
The Chief Minister said he will be camping in Nellore district for a couple of days to monitor the situation. It was for the first time in the history of Nellore district that it registered a record rainfall of 85 cm in five days, he said, adding that to supervise and monitor the relief and rehabilitation operations, senior IAS officer, secretaries and directors would be appointed as in-charge for five villages.
Ministers Narayana, Devineni Uma, MLC Chandramohan Reddy and others accompanied the Chief Minister. (NSS)
