Naidu urges CM to lead all-party delegation to Delhi

Hyderabad, June 25: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu today urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to lead an all-party delegation to New Delhi to exert pressure on the Centre to find a political solution to the row over Babli and 11 other projects with Maharashtra.

Speaking after inaugurating a three-day party review meeting here, he said with the Congress in power at the Centre and also in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, an amicable political solution could be found on the issue.

”Let us go to Delhi and fight the issue politically. People will not forgive us if injustice is done to them. The massive irrigation projects in the State will remain a mere wasteful expenditure if Maharashtra is allowed to go ahead with Babli and 11 other projects,” he said.

Even the Supreme Court had made it clear that only a political solution was the way out for riparian rows, he added. The TDP President alleged the Congress Government in the State had ”totally failed” in protecting the riparian rights of Andhra Pradesh with upper riparian states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Orissa on sharing of Godavari, Krishna and Vamsadhara waters. It was unfortunate the ruling Congress in the State had not put ”political pressure” on the Centre to intervene and resolve the issue politically with Maharashtra, he lamented.

The State Government had decided to initiate contempt proceedings against Maharashtra in the Supreme Court for going ahead with fixing crest gates at the Babli Project site.
