Naidu targets Jagan in land allotment debate

Hyderabad, March 30: Leader of the Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday accused the State government of creating neo-landlords out of corporate houses and capitalists by snatching lands from the poor at low cost and handing them over to projects, industries and special economic zones enabling them make huge earnings.

Speaking as part of the debate on the land allotment issue in the Assembly, he reiterated his party’s demand for setting up a Joint Legislature Committee (JLC) to go into the issue and asked the government to include the lands allotted during the TDP regime too in the terms of reference of such a committee.

By pointing out land allotment case by case he explained how Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s business concerns, including Jagati publications Pvt Ltd., were benefited with every deal.

About a dozen Jagan group MLAs led by Konda Surekha and Balineni Srinivasa Reddy opposed mention of their leader’s name when he was not a member of the House and trooped the podium and argued with the chair to restrain Mr. Naidu from taking Jagan’s name.

Point of order

In response to Ms. Surekha’s point of order, Deputy Speaker N. Manohar told them that Mr. Naidu was only quoting a document of the Income Tax Department, wherein the land allotment to three companies – Brahmani Infratech, Indu Infotech and Star Gauge was mentioned.

Serving of notices to these companies by the Government served no purpose as the land sale deeds were executed in their favour without a brick being put up, Mr. Naidu felt.

The TDP chief asked the Jagan group MLAs to identify themselves for which party they were representing now and suggested them to quit and get re-elected if they had guts.
