Naidu to review working of his dept in Haryana tomorrow

Chandigarh: Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu, will tomorrow review the implementation and progress of various urban development and housing missions launched by the Centre in Haryana.

The focus will also be on implementation of welfare schemes in the Union Territory of Chandigarh, an official release said here today.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, state ministers concerned, secretaries of the Union and state urban development ministries, Haryana chief secretary and national and state-level mission directors of the new urban missions and other senior officials would attend the meeting.

Implementation and progress of projects in Haryana under the Centre’s Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Smart City Mission and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) will be reviewed in the meeting, the release said.

Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) is being implemented in all 80 statutory cities and towns of Haryana. The Urban Development Ministry has so far released Rs 75 crore to the state under this project.

So far, around 25,000 individual household toilets have been built in Haryana, out of the target of 1,06,373, besides 1,679 community and public toilets out of the target of 10,394, the release said.

Out of the 1,449 urban wards in the state, 412 wards have reported 100 per cent door-to-door collection of municipal solid waste.

While 3,490 tonnes of solid waste is being generated everyday in Haryana, 25 per cent of this is being currently processed as against the mission’s target of 100 per cent by October, 2019, it said.

Ten of the 80 mission towns have so far been declared and certified as Open Defecation Free. These include Panipat, Sirsa, Mandi Dabwali, Thanesar, Pehowa, Ladwa, Shahbad, Kalanwali, Ellenabad and Rania.

As many as 20 cities and towns have been included under AMRUT with a total investment of Rs 2,544 crore for providing water taps to all urban households as first priority, besides improving sewerage and drainage networks, non-motorised urban transport and providing open spaces.

Cities under AMRUT project are Panipat, Sonipat, Ambala, Ambala Sadar, Bahadurgarh, Hissar, Karnal, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Jagadhari, Palwal, Sirsa, Faridabad, Jind, Panchkula, Thanesar, Gurugram, Kaithal, Rewari and Yamunanagar.

While Faridabad was selected in the Fast Track Round of the competition for smart cities, Karnal is to compete in the third round of competition in progress.

Rs 2,600 crore has been approved under the Smart City Plan for Faridabad, the release said.
