Vijayawada, April 09: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu today participated in a ‘Maha Dharna’ programme at Prakasam Barrage along with farmers to highlight the Andhra Pradesh Government’s failure to protect the rights of the state over the surplus Krishna water.
Reaching the ‘Maha Dharna’ venue by road from Hyderabad, Mr Naidu along with TDP leaders protested against the construction of projects by the upper riprian states of Maharashtra and Karnataka on river Krishna to enable the neighbouring states to store the surplus water in their dams.
Large number of farmers from nearby districts of Guntur, East and West Godavari and Krishna turned out for participating in the stir.
The TDP was of the view that the government had not put forward the views effectively before the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal headed by Brijesh Kumar. Taking advantage of it, the Karnataka government was pushing hard for raising the height of Alamatti dam, which would prove a ‘death knell’ for the state, TDP leaders opined.
By organising the dharna the TDP intends to take all these issues to the people, a party leader said.
Police made several traffic diversions and imposed restrictions in view of the ‘Maha Dharna.’
