Naidu to grill govt on VAT in Assembly

Hyderabad, February 01 (INN): Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday assured textile traders that his party would grill the government in the ensuing budget session of Assembly over the Value Added Tax (VAT) imposed on textile trade.

Addressing the agitating textile traders, whose protest entered ninth day at Indira Park here, Naidu expressed solidarity with their agitation, adding he would question the government on VAT, which was affecting their business in the State. He said two lakh textile traders and 20 lakh workers would be affected on the imposition of VAT in the state and would drive away all investors in the textile sector.

Taking a serious note of the state government not responding to their demand for lifting of five percent VAT, the TDP chief stated that many state governments in the country had dropped VAT as it would burden the common man. He asked the government to explain as to why it was not dropping VAT. He said that lifting VAT on textile traders would be included in his party’s election manifesto.

Naidu said that people of the state would teach a fitting lesson to the Congress in the ensuing elections for burdening them with taxes. (INN)
