TDP president Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Friday lambasted the Congress-led UPA government for hiking prices of diesel and LPG gas.
Charging that the Centre has hiked LPG cost by Rs 350 per cyclinder (including external costs), the TDP president said that if his party returns to power it would give Rs 100 subsidy on LPG and also reduce prices of essential commodities within 100 days.
Naidu charged the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre with breaking backbone of the common man by resorting to hike petroleum products prices 25 times in the last six years leading to a halt of development activities and hindering his purchasing capacity. He said the Centre has passed on Rs 1500 crores burden on farmers by increasing diesel price.
The TDP staged a dharna at KBR Park here on Friday protesting against the price hike of diesel. Addressing the protestors, Naidu said that six cylinders per year to a family will not be sufficient. He said that Rs 350 will be burdened per every gas cylinder. He flayed the Centre stating that the industrial sector will be burdened in the State with Rs 700 crores and APSRTC with Rs 400 crores. He alleged that the oil companies were showing losses though they were getting profits.
The party cadres organized rallies and rasta rokos across the City protesting against the attitude of the Centre. TDP activists demonstrated cooking by using wood at Suraram Crossroads under Qutbullapur mandal. Party activists raised slogans against the Centre. (NSS)
