The Andhra Pradesh government, which is dedicated for the welfare of farmers, has decided to expand the Energy Efficient Pump Set Scheme (EEPS) to entire State which leads to enhancement of agricultural productivity, increased water pumping capacity apart from the huge energy savings, which ultimately leads to achieve the desired goals of energy efficiency activities for the benefit of the State and Stake holders.
Accordingly, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is determined to make the AP as the most energy efficient State in the country, directed the energy department to implement the EEPS scheme in a phased manner by focusing on segregation of Agriculrural feeders, which ultimately paves the way for saving of over 25%-30% of energy. The CM emphasised that not even single rupee burden to be put on the farmers in the entire scheme and ensure that the energy efficient pumpsets worth of around Rs 50,000 shall be installed at free of cost.
Ajay Jain, Secretary (Energy, I&I, CRDA), who briefed the Chief Minister along with G Sai Prasad, Secretary to CM, K Vijayanand, CMD/APTRANSCO & MD/APGENCO, K Ranganatham, Advisor, Energy Dept., and Dinesh Paruchuri, Director/ Finance/ APTRANSCO, and K. Muthyala Raju,H.Y. Dora, CMDs of DISCOMS about the latest initiatives of Govt. of India to organise the “National level Stake holders Meet on Agriculture DSM” at Vijayawada on February 4. The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction over the tangible results of the pilot project of EEPS scheme implemented in Rajanagaram mandal, East Godavari Dist. The CM further instructed to extend the scheme to the entire State wherein around 15 lakh BEE 5-Star rated energy efficiency pumpsets would be installed.
Union Minister of State for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal has assured the Chief Minister of providing around Rs 5000 crore investment in the EEPS which will be a boon for agricultural consumers as well as State economy.
Consequently, as per the instructions of the Union Minister, the Managing Director, Energy Efficiency Services Limited, Saurabh Kumar in a communication to Ajay Jain has informed that going by the huge successful implementation of EE & EC programs like DELP & Energy Efficiency LED street lighting program in the state of AP, with the unstinted & continuous support of Govt of AP & overwhelming response from consumers towards energy conservation activities, the Govt of India is keen to show case AP even in Energy Efficient pumpsets scheme also to the other parts of the country. AP is the only state in India implementing EE activities massively and yielded substantial results, said MD/ EESL.
As a part of this initiative, the Centre has decided to organise National level Stake Holders Meet on Agriculture DSM (Replacement of Inefficient Agl pumpsets with BEE star rated EE Pumpsets) to hold series of discussion with the Agrl Pumpsets manufacturers etc,., and review of the program for scaling up, potential and opportunity & methodology, evolving structure of Agrl. DSM based on the pilot project learning and stakeholders consultations, modalities of the programme including project rollout by EESL, GoI start of service during contract period (4 to 5 years) for each individual pumpset and benefits of the programme to the Govt. of AP, DISCOMs and farmers at large.
The estimated energy savings quantum based on the Monitoring & Verification (MV) Audit done on 142 pumpsets under pilot project implemented in Rajanagaram Mandal of East Godavari District are 20.38 Million Units. The average capacity of the pumpsets in the above sample is observed to be 17.4 KW/23.33 HP. (NSS)
