Naidu blames TRS for attack

Hyderabad, December 26: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu has warned the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) against targeting party leaders and their properties, saying such actions would not be tolerated anymore.

Addressing a media conference, Mr. Naidu blamed the TRS largely for the attacks on senior party MLA, Nagam Janardhan Reddy, and others at Osmania University and targeting of houses and business establishments of the party leaders, M. A. Saleem, P. Chandrasekhar, Talasani Srinivas Yadav and K. Rammohan Rao in and around Hyderabad.

There was involvement of the BJP too to some extent, he said.

Terming these attacks as deliberate to create a scare in the TDP ranks and insult leaders, he reminded the TRS that it had no cadre compared to what his own party had. The performance of the TRS in Assembly elections was poor while it was scared of facing the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, Mr. Naidu said.

Mr. Naidu said these violent attacks left everyone wondering if there was a government in place in the State and if yes, what was it doing.

A middle-aged person who was arrested for the attack on Dr. Janardhan Reddy in Osmania University campus claimed that he resorted to the attack as Mr. Reddy made comments against the TRS president. The attack on Dr. Reddy shamed everyone with faith in democracy and civility, he said.

It came at a time when the TDP was the first to condemn police lathi charge on students and take up the issue of withdrawal of cases booked against them with Chief Minister K. Rosaiah.

It was a sad day in his 30- year-old political career as well as that of the TDP.

Responding to a question on the situation in the State, the TDP president said having created the mess, it was for the Congress to resolve it. Meanwhile, party leaders and workers staged a ‘dharna’ at Ambedkar statue in protest against the attack. They raised slogans against the TRS and Congress.
