New Delhi: Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Venkaiah Naidu today assured “full support” to a legislators’ group which is engaged in promoting awareness on UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among MPs and MLAs.
“Legislators Group on Sustainable Development Goals (LG-SDGs) called on me. Assured them full support for implementation of SDGs,” Naidu said in a tweet.
Naidu assured the LG-SDGs that the government would be “too happy to enable a detailed discussion” in Parliament on sustainable development goals, an official release said.
The United Nations’ SDGs, to be achieved during 2016-30, include ending of poverty in all its forms everywhere, ending hunger and achieving food security, ensuring healthy lives and ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education.
It also includes achieving gender equality and empower all women and girls and making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has urged Parliaments to play a central role in implementing the SDG agenda.
