Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu today appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to intervene and revoke the ban on cotton exports.
‘I also urge you to direct the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to procure cotton immediately and come to the rescue of the farmers who are in distress,’ Mr Naidu said in a letter to the Prime Minister, a copy of which was released to the media here. The Former Chief Minister stated that ‘it is distressing to see the plight of cotton growers in Andhra Pradesh who were initially affected by drought and now with the abrupt policy of the Centre to ban cotton exports, they will be forced to resort to distress sales.’ Mr Naidu claimed cotton crop on in 33 lakh acres withered due to drought causing great misery to the farming community.
