Nagpur model garbage collection will be implemented soon in GHMC: Somesh

The newly constituted committee for Swachh Hyderabad have visited the Nagpur Municipal Corporation.

The team members have praised the working conditions of the Corporation and the door to door garbage collection which has been introduced from 2004 was yielding very good results and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation has reached the target of 80 per cent lifting of garbage through door to door garbage collection.

The Committee said that they will be submitting the report to the Government for implementation of the door to door garbage collection and various civic works in GHMC as being done in Nagpur Municipal Corporation.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation having an area of 217.56 Sq. Kms with a population of 25,05,000 with 5,24,982 households having 66,020 shops and offices. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation is having 10 Zones, 145 wards and average waste generation per day is about 1,000 metric tons and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation is striving hard to make dumper free city. In the year 2008 the total dumper bins were 700 in the entire city in 2009 the bins have been reduced to only 225 and in the year 2010-2015 total bins have been reduced to 170 at present 170 dumper bins are existing and door to door garbage collection is being taken up in a systematic and phased manner.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has taken up complaint redresser through Nagpur Municipal Corporation Face book Page, Citizens of Nagpur can visit this page and complaint if they find garbage uncollected from their home colony, area or from anywhere in city. The complaint can be lodged in three ways:

This system works with the help of Consumer Complaint Software designed specifically for this which includes details of complainant, the zone ward details and the various other specifications for different types of complaints. Complaints are resolved in the following manner.

Somesh Kumar, Commissioner & Special Officer, GHMC said that the best practice is implemented by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation the same will be implemented in the GHMC also in the near future.

The Swachh Hyderabad Committee consisting of Mahmood Ali, Deputy Chief Minister, P Mahender Reddy, Minister for Transport, MPs, K. Keshava Rao, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, K. Prabhakar Reddy, several MLCs, MLAs and senior officials of GHMC have also visited the Delhi and Nagpur. (NSS)
