Tension prevailed in Nagarkurnool where former TDP legislator Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy is seeking re-election as an Independent, when shadow policemen tried to search his residence on Saturday.
Followers of Nagam expressed displeasure at the police conducting the search without any permission and locked up four policemen. According to information, four police constables entered the house of Dr Nagam in plain clothes in a stealthy operation. The irate followers of Nagam, who noticed the cops in mufti questioned them about the purpose of their visit and locked them up in a room. There was a serious altercation between the policemen and Nagam’s supporters.
On knowing about the incident, DSP Ashok Kumar has gone to the place and tried to get them out. At this juncture, Nagam intervened and entered into an argument with the DSP. Nagam’s supporters raised anti-police slogans. Nagam has alleged that the policemen had demanded money from him. However, the constables had stated that they had gone to Nagam’s residence only on the orders of their superiors. (NSS)
